How to Get to Mt. Emei from Chengdu

Situated in Emeishan City, Sichuan Province, near to Giant Buddha of Leshan, the Mount Emei is some 170 kilometers from Chengdu, 130 kilometers from the Shuangliu International Airport and 28 kilometers from Leshan city. It is quite convenient to get to Emei from Chengdu, mostly by buses.

By bus (recommended)
The Xinnanmen, Gaoshengqiao and Ximen bus stations in Chengdu have buses heading for Emeishan City every half hour from 07:20 to 19:20. The journey takes about 2.5 hours from Chengdu to Emei. It cost ¥48 and arrives at Emei town main bus station. After arriving at the bus station in Emei City, tourists can change for the bus to the Baoguo Temple (the main gate of the Mount Emei Scenic Area), which is situate at the foot of the mountain and is the largest temple on Mount Emei. Or you can change for a taxi to Baoguo Temple, which is the most convenient way and is highly recommended.


To be noticed, there are two stations in Emei, one is Jiuzhu Passenger Center, which is 6 km away from Emei Mount Scenic Area, the other is located inside Emei Mount Scenic Area. So, when you get on the bus, you should ask the steward which station the bus will finally stop at. If you get off at Jiuzhu Passenger Center, just change to a taxi to get the scenic spot.

By train (not recommended)
The Emeishan Railway Station on the Chengdu-Kunming Railway Line is only 10 kilometers away from the Baoguo Temple. there are regular trains also depart from Chengdu Train Station to Emei Train Staiton, taking 2 hours and costing ¥20. From the train station Bus 8 (¥2) directly transfers to the main gate of Baogou Village (last stop). Baogou Village is the departing point for buses going up mount Emei and also the starting point for trekking. Or you can get to by taxi from the railway station.

Travel Guide
There are cable cars to take you up the mountain. Tourists can travel between Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha by bus. In the downtown of Leshan City, tourists can get to the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area by taking public bus Nos. 3, 7, 8 and 13 or ferry.

Golden Summit, Wan-nian Monastery, Leiyin Monastery, Baoguo Temple, Jin Ding Temple, Pinnacle Lingyan , Bailongdong Cave are all the highlights around the mountain.
