When it comes to skiing, people habitually think of the north China or Europe, because in their mind those places are covered with snow throughout the year. In those places, tourists’ dreams about playing in the snow field can be realized. But in fact, there is such a place where tourists can enjoy the snowy silver world in Mt. Emei in winter--Mt. Emei Leidongping Ice-snow Recreation Ground. The natural mountain climate there provides the chance for skiing amateurs to experience the pleasure of skiing.
After finishing construction of China’s largest wild monkey reserve, Mt. Emei finished the construction of the largest high mountain ice and snow playground, covering 8000 square meters.
Mt. Emei Leidongping Ice-snow Recreation Ground, on the right side of Leidongping Parking Lot, is only 2 li (1000 meters) away from Jieyin Temple, the lower station of the Golden Summit Cable Car. 2000 meters above sea level, Leidongping Ice-snow Recreation Ground enjoys favorable geographic position and unique environment with crisscross gully, winding hills and even-distributed vegetation. The annual average temperature here is only 5℃, with 10℃in summer and -15℃to -30℃in winter. The snowy period starts from the end of September to the beginning of October, and sometimes, the accumulated snow reaches about 1 meter and lasts for as long as 150 days; therefore, tourists can ski for nearly 130 days from December to the end of March of the following year. Unique climate condition together with the mild and wide angle of the place provide favorable climate and geographic condition for skiing.
In addition, the forest coverage rate here reaches 95% with virgin forest as the main part, and multi-type vegetation are dotted in the forest. Experts agreed that the place is an ideal tourism skiing field considering its geographic location and economy.
Mt. Emei Skiing Field, providing tourists with playground for playing in the snow and skiing, is divided into several different functional zones: ski practicing zone, ski slope zone, snowball fight zone and snow sculpture zone for tourists. In addition, other facilities such as a parking lot and restaurant are also provided. Skiing tools including skiing boards, skiing boots and skiing sticks are imported from Austria, costing over 1000,000 RMB.
Each year, Ice and Snow Festival will be held in Mt. Emei in snowy seasons. The skiing field will be a happy winter outing paradise: alpine skiing, funny skiing, figure speed skating show, snow tubing group show, mountain bike driving on the snow ground, dog sledding, tug-of-war competition in snowfield, snow sculpture competition, family snow tubing competition, ice and snow Christmas night...The cheerful experience in the ice and snow world adds attraction and vitality to Mt. Emei in winter.
The boundless snow field, silent forest, vast and clean blue sky, beautiful scenery and unique pinnacle buildings give tourists who have never been to Europe the same feeling of Alps.
